Excellent site, a true stand-out from most other martial arts sites I've visited. I practice traditional Shotokan karate - started @ 12, reached 1st kyu by 15, club packed in, trained with various clubs for a couple of years before taking up squash, drink & girls. I didn't practice karate for 16 years but returned to it a few years ago & was awarded 1st Kyu (for the 2nd time in my life) in May 2000. I missed the chance to go for 1st Dan this year due to being Best Man at my mate's wedding (one of the few valid reasons available!) but will be presenting myself for examination Jan/Feb 2002. I'm living proof that once karate has passed though your life it makes a lasting impression. Even if you never return to training the principles of karate-do never leave your life. All through the years I wasn't practising karate I felt that something was missing - not any more. I'm fast approaching 38 and starting to suffer from arthritis in one knee but that's not going to stop me from pursuing the greatest love of my life (outside my family)! My message to anyone interested in pursuing their interest in any martial art is - go for it & stick with it, it takes patience & hard work but the rewards are more than worth it whether it be by achieving a higher grade or just being able to improve a single technique. Domo to anyone who reads the whole of this message!
Congratulations on your fine website. Interesting links too! Greetings from Amsterdam, Holland.
