Stories:

I started to practice Karate with Kyle Karate Club in 1979 at the age of 25 for a number of reasons; An interest in Martial Arts, to get fit and lose weight and to defend myself. I saw an advert in the local paper for Kyle Karate Club and went along one Sunday night.

It started with a warm up, 30 seconds later I was out of breath, wheezing, a minute later heart was pounding (is this the end?) sweat dripping off me, another 30 seconds and I’m feeling like throwing-up. Everyone in the hall seemed to do what was asked with ease while I was totally uncoordinated and by the latter half of the practice my legs were shaking and having to take short breaks. I went home shattered, but with so much on my mind and a lot of preconceptions destroyed. I had really enjoyed the practice in a masochistic sort of way.

I’ve returned to Kyle Karate Club after 16 years and found the same people practising that I used to practice with years ago . . . . . . . It’s good to be home !
