Our Grading System

These coloured belts only refer to the Student (kyu) grades, Master (from 1st dan up to 5th dan) grades all wear black belts whether they are junior or senior. As this is traditional karate, you do not have to "fight for your belt" - simply do your best!

Juniors ( under 16 )
As with most martial arts, we use coloured belts to signify a level of competence or "grade". The junior grading system is very similar to that used with adults, but with "coloured tabs" used between the full grades. Gradings are normally carried out at special weekend courses by the club's chief Instructors assisted by other Dan grade adults.

Seniors ( over 16 )
The senior grading
system uses the coloured belts as shown above to signify the grade displayed above it. There are no "tabs" used in the senior system and gradings are therefore generally spaced further apart. Gradings are carried out at weekend courses and you are observed by a variety of dan grades with the final grade being decided by Hugh and Sanny.
